Welcome to the Sierra Mountaineering Club!
Who We Are
Sierra Mountaineering Club is a 501(c)7 not-for-profit social and recreational organization. Our mission is to be a community where people connect, learn and climb together. We are not a professional or licensed guide service, but a traditional mountaineering club such as the historic Sierra Club.
As a modern mountaineering club built by and for recreational climbers, we offer many free events open to the public. Read More
Connect, Learn and Climb. SMC members created the most active mountaineering club in California, hundreds strong and getting out all the time, year-round. When you join SMC you’ll become a member of this community of climbers - a club you can connect with, learn from, and continue to climb with for years to come. So join SMC now, and get out climbing with us!
Mount San Antonio - Winter Ascent of the Baldy Bowl Route
When adequate snow coverage is present, the Bowl is easily the number one winter climb in Southern California due to an ideal combination of steep terrain and route variation...
Mt Rainier - Kautz Glacier
There was much anticipation, as soon, 16 members of SMC would meet at the hub of the Pacific Northwest for an attempt at summiting the most respected mountain in the contiguous U.S., Mt Rainier.
Mount Langley via Old Army Pass
The mountains treated us to another glorious day...Looking back at the summit, we were grateful for our shared experience, comradery, and satisfaction it brought.
Mount Russell East Ridge
June is prime climbing season for the Eastern Sierra. Our SMC team took advantage of record low snowfall to visit Mt Russell
We were blown away by the sheer walls on either side of the notch that dropped at least 700 ft!
Temple Crag Moon Goddess Arête
Despite the massive amount of loose rock, we made it through without incident.
